the bouncer

Today something really cool happened at work. Okay, so it wasn't really cool, but it's kinda cool in a twisted sort of way. Anyway, I'm up on our storage floor clearing out some boxes. Just as I finish up and go wait for the elevator, I get paged by the mailroom. So, I call them, and my coworker tells me that there is an intruder in the building and that they need guys to go down to the 20th floor.

Technically, security isn't really part of my job, but in these situations, any male that gets the page is supposed to respond. Typically, the guys of the mailroom end up helping out in these situations. So, I get to 20 and meet my boss there. He actually used the "Let's split up, you go this way and I'll go that way" line. It was so awesome. So, I start checking around, walking into dark workrooms and flipping the lights on. I even went into the restrooms and used the mirror to check around the corner.

Anyway, we split up and start checking other floors. Anyway, eventually I found him, so he started running, So, I ran after him and tackled him. He threw a punch at me, so I started punching him in the face until he passed out.

Okay, so everthing after "start checking the floors" was made up. That's the ending I was hoping for. In reality, we searched for about 25 minutes, until the guy at the front desk gave us word that he saw him leave the building. Anway, it was fun. Kinda like hide and seek with higher stakes.

In other work news, the supervisor gig is getting better. Things have clamed down a bit, which is nice. I'm still pretty busy, but not to the point of exhaustion. Plus, a couple of times today I had oppertunities to stick up for some of my coworkers. I like that. One of my goals when I took this position was to make the job better for my coworkers. During the first couple of weeks, with the frantic pace we were going at, I didn't feel like I had acheived that, so it really frustrated me. I felt like I had let everyone down. But, they have all been amazing. I think most everyone trusts me, which is a good yet humbling feeling. So, I'm starting to get the hang of it. I have lots of room for improvement, but all in time.

Anyway, the final work story of the day . . . I overheard a conversation in the copyroom today. Apparently, one of the paralegals got upset because the people in the copyroom were unable to make a color copy of a photo. The problem is that the original was in black and white.

Some people are sooo . . . nevermind.
