First of all, Sanjaya is still alive. So, we still have a shot.
Secondly, the good folks at votefortheworst.com have arranged it so that we can get text messages with the call in number to vote for Sanjaya. That's right, we can now vote without having to actually watch American Idol. It's too good to be true.
Apparently, those involved in putting American Idol together have called VFTW a "mean spirited" site. This is quite ironic, since a large part of their show is based upon Simon making "mean-spirited comments" to contestants. He vowed to leave the show if our boy Sanjaya were to win. Unfortunatly, I think this may be as empty as Alec Baldwin's vow to move to Canada if Bush won in 2000. Just as I voted in 2000 for Baldwin to leave the country, I will now vote for Simon to leave American Idol. I encourage you to do the same.
Often during my lunch break, I buy a copy of USA Today and thumb through it while I eat. I'll be honest, I mostly just go through the sports section, but then on Wednesdays I also look at the TV ratings in the Life section. And today, I must admit, in the Life section I saw some of the best journalism of all time.
There was an article telling us how to get rid of American Idol.
Okay, so that wasn't exactly the premise of the article. But, the requisite information was in there. Apparently there is some joker named Sanjaya, who has no business being in the top 10. But, somehow, he made it in. The premise of the article is that if he were to win, that would ruin the "credibility" of the show, people would quit watching, and we don't have to worry about having the next Kelly Clarkson or Clay Aiken thrown upon us.
It was truly enough to make me start watching the show, cheering for Sanjaya.
And apparently there is a website devoted to this very cause, votefortheworst.com. This is truly the best use of the internet ever. If we all work together and vote with one voice for Sanjaya, we can get rid of American Idol. Imagine living in a world where we have no idea who Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, or Bo Bice are. It's so beautiful to think about. Hopefully he survives tonight so that I can join in next week and vote for him.
