    real life blonde jokes

Today at work, I entered a room where two blondes were standing behind a desk chatting. I was looking down at something when I heard one of them say, "I don't get it." I looked over and saw them looking at Laffy Taffy wrappers, and I began to laugh. Then, the following conversation took place:

Blonde 1 (the one who did not say, "I don't get it."):Maybe you can explain this.
    Me: Okay, shoot.
Blonde 1: "Okay, here's what it says; 'Mississippi, spell it.' And then it says 'I-T.' What's that mean?"
Me: "That's how you spell 'it'."
    Blonde 1: "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."
    Blonde 2: "Huh?" (pause). "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

close the book on this one

Nearly 2 and 1/2 years ago, I changed the title of my blog, from simply being "the colonel's blog" to "a case study in awesomeness." At the time, I didn't realize the significance of this change, for it was not intentional. I simply believed myself to be switching from a not-so-clever title to a somewhat more clever title. However it was in the subtitle of the blog, that was added a couple of months later, "a fool and a wandering minstrel exploring the infinite abyss" that the significance began to take shape. "A fool and a wandering minstrel" and "exploring the infinite abyss" are 2 metaphors that have helped me to define the journey that I have been on over the last couple of years.

It's not the actual title change that is significant, however. It's that I changed the title at all, at the time I changed it. I changed it right after I moved back to Cincinnati back in January of 2005. And, the Cincinnati era of my life, from January 2005 to June 2007 has been a very distinct chapter in my life, and the "a case study in awesomeness" era of my blog has been a chronicle of that journey. Most of the elements in that journey have been very personal, abstract, and difficult to define or come to grips with. However, I look at all that I have learned during it, and I see that it has truly been one of the defining periods of my life.

I reflect on this now because that era is coming to a close. As you may have noticed, I included June 2007 as the closing date for this era of my life. Some of you know why that is, and if you don't, I appologize that this is the venue that you are learning of this development, but here it is. On July 1st, I will be moving to Ames, Iowa to be a campus minister at Campus Christian Fellowship at Iowa State University. Thus a new distinct era of my life will be beginning. As such, I think it is going to be time to revamp my blog, with a new title and everything. I believe that I will keep the same URL, but we will see. Maybe, someday, I'll even start posting regularly again.
